Paladin was the lead ship at the [[Battle of Grafton]], and took moderate damage in the battle, with only one dead and two serious casualties. When Captain Zuko was promoted to full commodore and transferred his flag to ''[[TSS Astute]]'', She was then commanded by Captain Henri Carel. As part of [[Strike Squadron 42]] under Commodore Lord Zuko, Paladin participated in the Marches campaign with little success, and in the end Captain Carel was relieved of command for "conduct unbecoming an officer and loss of confidence in his ability to command," though the true reason was cowardice - he was afraid to engage the enemy.
